ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Pro-Tibetan activists are planning to hold
worldwide protests during the Beijing Olympics in August.

At a news conference in Athens, a spokeswoman for Students for a Free
Tibet told reporters the group will even try to get through security
to demonstrate in Beijing itself.

The group is also calling on the International Olympic Committee to
cancel the Olympic torch relay through Tibet next week and to press
China to allow immediate media access to the area. The spokeswoman
accused China of "drawing a curtain of silence" across Tibet in an
attempt to "prevent confirmation of killings, beatings, arrests" and
other repression. She says the situation there remains "critical."

The IOC executive board is to start a three-day meeting tomorrow in
Athens to select the candidate cities for the 2016 Olympics.
