Kathmandu, October 31 -- At least two senior Nepal ministers and two
central committee members of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists are
on a secret trip to China, with the Government keeping total silence
on the matter.

Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Communication Minister
Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Deputy Commander of People's Liberation Army
(PLA) Netra Bahadur Chand and the CPN-M's women wing leader, Jayapuri
Gharti, crossed the border at Tatopani in ministerial vehicles, with
escorts provided by the Chinese government, yesterday morning.

The CPN-M government of Nepal is said to be in talks with its Chinese
counterparts over providing training to Maoist activists to qualify
them for integration into the Nepal Army.

The fact that the Chinese government provided the Nepali team
diplomatic escort from Kathmandu to Tibet suggests it was a
well-planned trip. The Tibet Province Defence Ministry refused to
comment on the matter.
