Dharamshala: To the delight of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a 24-member media delegation from Russia and Ukraine focused their questions on the promotion of human values and with little emphasis on world politics during their collective interview with His Holiness in Dharamshala on 20 December.
His Holiness said as the people of Russia and Ukraine are passing through and gaining new experiences, as a human being, they have to use their intelligence calmly with determination and optimism.
My main concern is to have more prosperity and harmony in Russia and Ukraine, His Holiness added.
Replying to a question on how to keep calm and happy in the times of economic crisis and terrorists’ onslaught, His Holiness said the key is to remain optimistic while emphasizing that there is no guarantee for a permanent happiness and peaceful situation as changes will always take place.
And it is equally wrong to feel that a successful period will remain permanent, His Holiness added.
Concerning terrorism, His Holiness said it is carried out by a small group of mischievous people by misusing modern technology. But the desire for peace is much stronger, His Holiness added.
Speaking on ways to develop human trust, His Holiness said honesty, truthfulness and warm- heartedness are the basis of trust.
If you care for others' welfare, there cannot be dishonesty, cheating and bullying, which causes exploitation and destroys one’s happiness, His Holiness said.
His Holiness said openness, transparency are also the basis of trust, while hypocrisy and totalitarian system destroy it.
His Holiness also expressed his greetings and offered his prayers to the people of Kalmykia Republic on their new year on 21 December. The new year also coincided with death anniversary of the great Tibetan Buddhist master, Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.
In his message to Kalmyks, His Holiness underlined the need to pay more attention and study the remarkable treatises and teachings of Je Tsongkhapa.
I am happy that our discussion was on fundamental human values, His Holiness said.
