A large number of Tibetan people already have access to Tibetan-language
mobile phones in Tibet, according to the Tibet Daily.

At the end of 2004, the Tibet branch of China Telecommunications
Corporation (China Telecom) established the research and development
team for Tibetan-language mobile phones.

After one year's efforts, the Tibetan language communication system was
put into effect at the end of 2005.

To date, the number of users of this type of mobile phones has reached
more than 30,000 people.

At present, information technology in the Tibetan language is more
developed than the languages of other Chinese ethnic groups.

Today, Tibetan-language mobile phones and other modern methods of
communication such as online chatting and Internet browsers in the
Tibetan language have enabled more and more Tibetan compatriots to enjoy
various conveniences brought by the information age.

The Tibetan language, one of the oldest languages in the world, has a
history of more than 1,300 years.
