"I believe that to meet the challenges of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. It is the foundation for world peace."

Letter to Editor: The Dalai Lama's 75th Birthday

July 12, 2010

July 6, 2010

I saw a documentary yesterday, July 5th about the
struggle for autonomy of Tibet by His Holiness
and the Tibetan people. The responsibility and
guilt lies with the U.S. and Britain chiefly for
remaining silent and refusing to acknowledge His
Holiness as the political and spiritual leader of
Tibet at a time when China did not have such
control over every single country as she does now!

His Holiness is in a most precarious and
difficult situation, caught between his
compassionate, nonviolent work towards peace and
reconciliation and the frustration of the Tibetan
people over the ongoing repression of the
Tibetans still in Tibet, a country that despite
faults and corruption in the government still
remain steadfastly loyal to His Holiness and,
above all, to their spiritual heritage.  No one
deserves our support more than His Holiness. It
is for the well-being of all sentient beings that
we need to come out and publicly and unanimously
declare His Holiness to be the legitimate leader
of the Tibetan people.  There is no time to lose!  We need to act now!
