RICHARD GERE A confluence of movies about Tibet brought actor Richard
Gere's favorite cause to the fore in the U.S. As Hollywood's unofficial
spokesman opposing Chinese domination of that land, Gere offered sound
bites galore. Gere, 48, also got in a few digs at Beijing in his
thriller Red Corner, the tale of a visiting American businessman who
gets trapped and brutalized in the harsh Chinese justice system.
