Melinda Gates visit the hill-top town of Mcleodganj, her tour less than 24 hour private visit to the abode of the Dalai Lama. Melinda, the wife of Bill Gates, made a quiet entry on Monday afternoon, called on the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Tuesday morning and after taking a quick round of Tibetan market at Mcleodganj flew back to New Delhi. The visit which not only Melinda but also the Tibetan administration wanted to keep a closely guarded secret. The Tibetan administration maintained a deafening silence on her visit and refused to even confirm that Melinda was indeed here. "No comments. We cannot even confirm if she was here", was the reaction of the Dalai Lama's office to the queries about Melinda's visit to Mcleodganj.

Notwithstanding the shroud of secrecy that enveloped her brief visit, Wearing a black trouser and red colour jacket with the sacred white scarf presented to her by the Dalai Lama dangling around her neck, Melinda, along with about half dozen foreigner female friends spent about 30 minutes in the lawn of the Chonor lodge. After initial "no no please" Melinda agreed for the photo shoot with a pre-condition to this reporter that she would not entertain any question. As the spot where she was standing was shady, Melinda herself chose the sunny spot and gave enough opportunity for the photo shoot.

Later, Melinda took a quick round of the bazaar and visited some Tibetan shops before silently bidding adieu to the town. Earlier, in the morning Melinda called on the Dalai Lama. The meeting lasted about 40 minutes, well placed sources said. Melinda refused to comment when asked as to what transpired in her meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader this meeting.

David Vanote, who works for Melinda said that he was also not in a position to say if Melinda planned to start a project for the Tibetans. "She is enjoying the scenic beauty of Mcleodganj for which she came here", said David.

Melinda is the latest in the lengthy list of celebrities, including Richard Gere, Pierce Brosnon, Steven Seagal, Goldie hawn, Sarah farguson and supermodel Cindy Clafford, to visit the Dalai Lama here.
