4. Tibetan Flags in Swiss Parliament

Berne, 10 March 2004 - 10th March commemoration in Switzerland was a huge
success. More than 30 members of the Swiss Parliament's lower chamber put
Tibetan flags on their desk during parliamentary session. Tibetan
flags have been hoisted in over 20 cities by the local councils.

These activities have been carried out as support to a signature petition
which had been submitted last year to the parliament demanding a sincere
effort on the part of the government to raise the issue of Tibetan
Self-Determination in the UN.

More than 500 Tibetans and supporters gathered in Berne, the capitol of
Switzerland. The Representative of H. H. the Dalai Lama, Chhime R.
Chhoekyapa, read the 10th march statement. Mr Bernhard Mueller, former
minister of the canton of Berne, strongly condemned in his speech those
people who reduce the Tibetan issue to a human rights case. "Tibet is
illegaly occupied by PR China and this fact can't be suppressed", he said.
Mr Mario Fehr, MP and President of Swiss Parliamentarian Group for
Tibet said the Tibetans can't be denied the right to determine their future
themselves. He is confident that freedom for Tibet will soon prevail.

Prime time news of Swiss National Television carried the story and reported
extensively. Several radio stations brought live coverage of the rally.
