"As long as human rights are violated, there can be no foundation for peace. How can peace grow where speaking the truth is itself a crime?"

Dalai Lama brings his life lessons to Montreal in October

May 29, 2017

Montreal Gazette, May 26, 2017 - Compassion and mindfulness — how to attain that peace and sustain it — are the subjects the spiritual leader of Tibet is going to expand upon at a Bell Centre event on Oct. 20 that takes place at 12:30 p.m.

Neurobiologist Michael Meaney of McGill University will give an opening talk on the science of compassion, then the Nobel laureate will take the stage.

The Mind & Life Institute, a non-profit organization based in Virginia, is behind the initiative.

While he’s here, the Dalai Lama will also be giving private talks — to scholars and leading scientists — from Oct. 19 to 21 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as part of a Mind & Life Dialogues series hosted in partnership with the museum. Tickets are by invitation only.

Tickets for the Bell Centre talk go on sale Friday, May 26 at noon via the venue and Evenko (514-790-2525; Cost: $34.75 to $171.
