France said it rejected any outside pressure over a possible meeting
between President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Dalai Lama, a foreign
ministry statement said Wednesday.

The statement was issued after Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner had
summoned China's ambassador earlier Wednesday over comments he had
made the previous day.

"He told him that France would decide its attitude in complete
independence and rejecting pressure from wherever it came," said the statement.
